The Clan System

We are excited to announce the creation of the Clan System at Montrose Academy!  Montrose has had Clans in the past - similar to the house system of British schools - but this year we are giving it a new look!

Our Clans will now include all of our students - Kindergarten through 12th grades - and the students will remain in the same Clan, year after year.  This will foster a sense of teamwork and camaraderie within our school by including the younger children - helping them to be mentored by their older peers - and will give a sense of permanence by establishing the Clan, or family link throughout a student's years at Montrose.

The three Clans at Montrose are Clan Graham, Clan MacDuff, and Clan Wallace.  They are led by Joseph Hakimian, Chase Guyer, and London Smalldridge, respectively, and I know these juniors will be excellent examples and leaders for their clan brothers and sisters.

It is our hope that the Clans will foster three very important areas for our students:

1.  Academics
2.  Altruism
3.  Kindness

Students will earn points for their clans with As and Bs on their grade sheets each week, as well as possible points given by teachers for extra effort in their studies.  They will also earn points for being altruistic to others - participating in Operation Christmas Child, picking up trash for the Nazarene Church, etc.  Finally, it is possible to earn points by simply being kind to others - and I am counting on teachers and staff to let me know when they see good things happening at our school!

In the spring, we will have a Highlander Festival and Games - a sports and games day with some traditional Scottish events that will give the Clans a chance to compete as groups and individually to earn points for their Clans.

And at the end of the year, at our Awards Ceremony, the Clan with the most points will receive the Highlander Trophy!
