Here are the videos for your week 3 assignment sheet: http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/oreilly/index.html#/v/1158204210001/ganging-up-on-rick-perry/?playlist_id=86923 http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/special-report/index.html#/v/1158088218001/infighting-heats-up-in-gop-race/?playlist_id=86927 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/44510047#44510047 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/vp/44509584#44509584 |
In the first video they take the side of defending Rick Perry, and brought up some facts and things he said throughout the debate, pointing out how he had agreed with Michelle Bachman that he had made a mistake, and that him not wanting to alienate a section of his voters could be a reason for him opposing the fence law.
The second video was spinned more in Michelle Bachman’s favor, focusing on how this might increase her votes, and was less sympathetic on Rick Perry.
The third video seemed to be the least biased of the four from what I saw. They mostly just described what occurred, and added the notion that perhaps the debate had increased the number of potential voters for Rick Perry, rather than reducing them.
The last video focused on delving into who they thought Rick Perry was as a character, and the way he responded to the accusations given to him in the debate. They also noted his resemblance to Regan’s “arrogant pugnaciousness.”
The first video Made it seem as if they were defending Rick Perry, acting like the other candidates were being almost mean to him, trying to bring him down.
The second was much like the first, although it wasn't defending Rick Perry nearly as much. It even did show the border fence as something he was doing wrong, at least in my opinion. It also let me see that he is a bit prideful.
The third was my favorite, as it was just facts. I didn't think of it as them trying to get Rick Perry onto everyone's favorite list. I like it more because they gave facts and insight to what was really happening.
I was unable to watch the last video, as my computer could only play about a second and a half...of the advertisement. I tried six times. Gah.
All of the videos but the first seemed to admit that Perry had made mistakes. The first did admit so, but still seemed to support him (although the speaker said, "Let's take a no-spin look at this...") The second and third seemed to be against him, and the fourth didn't focus on the debate as much, but on his personality. He was called arrogant, and the speakers said that this ready-for-a-fight personality would be a good thing for the Republican party.
